1. Discussion possible ideas on selection of a City Slogan for
the City of Watauga
Council Member Koontz, who requested this workshop topic, stated that he
felt the City needed to select a slogan but if there was no support for it,
then it should be dropped.
Discussion was held regarding possible selection of a slogan for the City
of Watauga. Council reviewed some of
the previously submitted suggestions for a slogan; however, no consensus was
reached.
City Manager Lacy explained that the idea of a City Slogan was called
“Branding” and that there were people in the market place that could provide
such a service. He suggested getting a
professional cost estimate.
Council suggested that the City Manager obtain information about the
possibility of hiring a “Branding” professional and related cost.
2. Discuss the possibility of prohibiting the purchase of any
items used for personal consumption such as water, soft drinks, etc., in
plastic containers
Council Member Koontz, who requested this workshop topic, suggested that
the City discontinue purchasing bottled water.
Mr. Koontz stated that the plastic does not disintegrate in landfills
and is not good for the environment.
City Manager Kerry Lacy responded that the City offices have provided for
the recycling of plastic bottles, cans and glass and that he was not in support
of doing away with bottled water.
After much discussion among the Council Members, there was no support for
the prohibition of purchasing bottled water.
