Economic Development Mission Statement |
The City of Watauga is dedicated to
significantly and continually serving the needs of existing
Watauga businesses, encouraging new businesses to locate in
Watauga and improving the quality of life for the residents of
Watauga. Therefore, the City shall devise, propose, implement
and use approved methods by which the City can retain existing
businesses and create an environment conducive to the
expansion of business enterprise (general and commercial)
consistent insofar as possible with the maintenance of a
predominately residential community in which its current peace
and tranquility are preserved.

The
current budget for 2007-08 indicates that there is
$47,192,767 in total available resources for all funds
combined. This is an increase in all funds available
resources of $4,723,777 in relation to the prior year's
$42,468,990. All fund expenses equal $31,805,736 with a
proposed spending increase of $2,175,777 over the prior fiscal
year amended budget of $29,629,959. The proposed total of
all funds ending balance from $12,839,031 will increase by
$2,548,000 over the prior year amended budget and is
estimated at $15,387,031.
Watauga's
pro-business environment, its membership in numerous regional
and state economic development organizations, provide the
assistance needed in bringing business and industry to the
area. The City has a bustling business environment of over 300
small, medium and large firms providing a diverse group of
goods and services to its citizens.
These businesses support a quality of life unsurpassed by most
towns of this size. While the business base includes several
national chains, over 75% are owned by independent business
people.

tailor-made suits to auto parts. Several large shopping malls
are within a ten minute drive from Watauga and the City is
home to five financial institutions, major food chains and many food
establishments, providing freedom of choice for all of your
families' needs.
