REGULAR MEETING

WATAUGA PUBLIC LIBRARY, 7109 WHITLEY ROAD

THURSDAY, MAY 11, 2006

I. CALL TO ORDER:

Chairperson Ruth Ann Jeffries called the meeting to order at 7:05 p.m.

II. CITIZEN’S OPEN FORUM:

None.

III. APPROVAL OF MINUTES:

1. Minutes of Meeting of March 9, 2006

Vickie Stone made a motion to approve the Minutes of Meeting of March 9, 2006 as presented. Melissa Flens seconded the motion, with all members present voting aye.

2. Minutes of Special Meeting of April 24, 2006

Vickie Stone made a motion to approve the Minutes of Special Meeting of April 24, 2006 as presented. Melissa Flens seconded the motion, with all members present voting aye.

IV. NEW BUSINESS:

1. Discussion and action on approval of absences of board member Marge Pearce pursuant to Chapter 9, Article 9.800, section 9.803(b) of the Code of Ordinances

Teresa Bowman made a motion to allow Marge Pearce to continue to serve on the Library Board as both absences were excused absences due to prior notification. Melissa Flens seconded the motion, with all members present voting aye.

2. Directors Monthly Report

Library Director Martha Chambers gave an update on plans for expansion of the Library and explains there was a target date of late June to start.

Storage shelving will be purchased with funds from Lone Star Libraries Grant.

The Friends of the Library Book Sale has earned approximately $800.00 to date and the sale continues through Saturday, May 13, 2006.

Mrs. Connie Barnes earned “Employee of the Year” award at North Texas Regional Library System (NTRLS). Mrs. Barnes received a proclamation from the Mayor at the April 24^th City Council meeting.

The summer reading club starts May 30, 2006 and the theme this year is “Reading Sport of Champions”.

The new Library Identification system was paid for by the Friends of the Library.

Mrs. Marge Pearce was named Library “Volunteer of the Year” at the May Special Library Meeting.

Library Director Martha Chambers attended the Texas Library Association (TLA) conference which was held in Houston in April.

The murals at the Southlake Library were discussed.

Teresa Bowman made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Rachel Pilgrim seconded the motion, with all members present voting aye.

The meeting adjourned at 7:20 p.m.
