Armed Robbery Suspects Apprehended and Gun Found With Assistance From WCPAAA

On Thursday, February 8, 2007 at approximately 8:56 p.m., two of our Watauga patrol officers, Officer Romer and Officer Erwin who were on their dinner break in the 6200 block of Rufe Snow, were alerted by a citizen that a robbery in progress was occurring at the “Game Stop,” at the end of the complex where they were dining.

The officers immediately left on foot and ran to the store, where they observed a robbery in progress with three masked suspects inside, one brandishing a pistol, threatening the store clerks. The suspects were demanding the clerks hand over all of the store's cash and they were also loading up several electronic gaming units.

As the officers radioed for backup, they allowed the suspects to exit the store whereas they announced their presence and demanded compliance at gunpoint. Two of the suspects managed to flee to a waiting vehicle and the masked gunman fled on foot through a Watauga neighborhood.

As the officers gave foot chase after the armed suspect, North Richland Hills Police Department was notified of the situation. The suspect fled across Rufe Snow and into an apartment complex in North Richland Hills were he was apprehended. The suspect still had the stolen cash in his possession but had "disposed" of the handgun during the chase. The Watauga Fire Department and the Watauga Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association were requested to search for the handgun the following morning. The handgun was located by the Watauga Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association members.

As of this date, five suspects have been identified and the Watauga Police Department is assisting neighboring jurisdictions in solving several of their open armed robberies cases. Good job to everyone involved, including outstanding investigative work by Detective Marty Galchutt.
