Why You Should Secure Your Gun at Home

As a firearms owner, it is your responsibility to know how to properly handle any firearm you possess, and to know how to secure your firearm(s) in a safe manner.  The estimated number of households with guns is as high as 40%.

Options for Securing Your Firearm

  • Unload and disassemble your gun

  • Lock it in a gun box, unloaded

  • Attach a chain or cable lock, unloaded

  • Apply a trigger lock, unloaded

  • Store ammunition in a separate secure place

What You Can Do to Prevent Gun Violence

If you keep guns in the home, store them unloaded and locked where children cannot reach them.  Ask the parents of your child's friends about guns in their homes.  Talk to your children about the dangers of guns.  Let them know they should tell an adult if they see a gun.
