TEXRail is a new 27-mile commuter rail line that will extend from downtown Fort Worth, across northeast Tarrant County, through North Richland Hills and Grapevine, and into DFW International Airport’s Terminal B. This line, which will begin service Jan. 5, 2019, is projected to serve more than 8,000 daily riders at nine stations by the end of the first year of operation. By 2035, nearly 14,000 riders are projected to ride the system.
Activity began in January 2017 off Smithfield Road just north of Mid Cities Boulevard to prepare the land for the construction of the Smithfield Station, one of North Richland HIlls’ two stops on the future TEXRail commuter line. In the coming year, work will also begin on a second local stop, Iron Horse Station, which will be located on Iron Horse Boulevard near NE Loop 820. TexRail service will start in January 2019.
