Message from the Mayor

HAPPY 4th of JULY WATAUGA.

July 4th, the day that we celebrate our independence and the birth of our nation. In 1776 the Continental Congress signed the Declaration of Independence and started us on this incredible 244 year journey. It's a day of celebration that we look forward to all year.

But this July we find ourselves in a most difficult position. A resurge in the Covid-19 corona virus has forced us to take a hard look at where we are and what we must do to combat it. Mandatory masks, limitations on gatherings and some business closures are just a few of the very difficult steps that had to be taken. Unfortunately, these decisions will all have a profound impact on how we celebrate our Independence Day this year and quite possibly many holidays to come. Most all public celebrations have been cancelled and those still scheduled will be very limited. However, you choose to celebrate yours, please remember what this holiday is all about. It is about your ability to pursue your dream. Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. With all her flaws we still have the luxury of living in the greatest country in the world. We have more things that bring us together than things that divide us. So let's be mindful of everything we can do for our country to make it a place of peace and happiness for all. Here's wishing everybody a safe and Happy 4th of July. And please take a moment to remember those men and women that cannot be with their loved ones during this time.

And may God bless you, your family, Watauga and the United States of America.
