Message from the MayorNovember. The end is near. End of the year that is. Fall is here and with it comes colorful leaves, cooler temperatures and some long overdue rains. We also bid farewell to daylight savings time. Colder temperatures and less sun, doesn’t make sense to me. November also brings us Thanksgiving and the unofficial start of the holiday season. It gives us an opportunity to spend time with our family and friends. I know that I am blessed with a beautiful family and many friends and I cherish these times as I missed more holidays than I care to remember during my military career.
And that brings me to Veterans Day. November 11th. It was originally designated as Armistice Day in honor of 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918 that signaled the end of World War 1. Congress passed a resolution in 1926 for an annual observance and it officially became a National holiday in 1938. Apparently congress didn’t work fast back then either. It is THE day set aside to pay tribute to all American Veterans, living or dead, who served their country honorably during war and peacetime. But especially to give thanks to living veterans for their sacrifice. As a veteran, we know and our families know all too well the sacrifices that we made during our service.
Sacrifice……what exactly is it ?
It is being at sea when your daughter is born.
It’s being in Vietnam at Christmas.
It’s being in Iraq when your son or daughter graduate.
It is thru the sacrifice of these men and women that America stands tall as the greatest nation in the world.
Another reason America is the greatest country in the world. Our right to vote. It sets us apart from other countries and cultures. Election Day is Tuesday the 3rd. If you didn’t make it to the polls for early voting please make sure you get there on Election Day. It’s your right. Make your voice heard.
And although our normal November celebrations have been curtailed because of the COVID virus I hope you all enjoy the holidays and have a great Thanksgiving. As always, please take a moment to remember those that can’t be with their families.

Municipal Court WeekWatauga, Texas — In recognition of the important service the City’s municipal court judge, court clerks, court administrator , prosecutors, marshals, bailiffs, and warrant officers provide to the community, the Mayor of Watauga will issue a proclamation declaring November 2nd to November 6th, 2020 Municipal Court Week.
Municipal Court Week is a great time to not only recognize how much municipal courts do, but to note the role that local courts and their personnel play in the criminal justice system and the larger community. The Watauga Municipal Court of record processes over 6,000 cases annually and employs three full time clerks and one Marshal who process Class C Misdemeanors and guide the operations of the Court in compliance with all state and federal laws. This task involves many hours of advanced training and a high level of expertise in positive customer service. Did You Know… - You can pay for most of your citations online
- You can have a trial in Municipal Court if you plead not guilty
- You can have your citation dismissed if you are a juvenile under the age of 18 (and currently in school) by participating in the Teen Court program
- Municipal Courts around the state handle more defendants and other participants than all other courts and there are 958 Municipal Courts throughout Texas - more than all other courts combined
- You can represent yourself in Municipal Court
Business hours for Municipal Court are from 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. on Mondays through Fridays. Due to COVID-19, the Court is holding virtual dockets until further notice.
For additional information about Municipal Court services, visit https://www.cowtx.org/961/Municipal-Court
