Message from the Mayor

Spring is here and summer is just around the corner. Although the Governor has “opened” Texas back up COVID is still spreading. Summer offers many public events and activities, so please be cautious and considerate. The City continues to “recommend” masks, social distancing, and hygiene. Watauga’s COVID numbers are looking good. Appointments for vaccinations are readily available and if you have not received yours yet please give it some thought.

April closed with strategic planning by the WEDC Board and City Council. Additionally, the City’s Animal Shelter is open after some HVAC repairs were completed.

May is shaping up to be another busy month. The Watauga Library returns to full operation on May 10^th. The long-awaited Grand Opening/Ribbon Cutting for the Watauga Splash Pad will be Saturday the 22^nd. Contact the Recreation Department for tickets and details. The Recreation Center and the Library both have summer programs available. The programs are likely to fill up fast so get signed up soon. The Citizens Focus Group will begin meeting this month. The first Regular Meeting of the Month, May 10^th, has been cancelled. Leaving May 24^th as the only Regular Meeting in May. As always, I invite you to join in person. Social distancing and masks are still required.

Lastly, Sunday May 9^th, is Mother’s Day. Make it Special. As always, take a moment to think of those serving and unable to be with their families.

Brush/Heavy Trash Waste

Dear Residents,

Bulky Waste: Serviced once per month the service will occur on Monday thru Wednesday and your scheduled week to expect service will be determined by which of the (5) sections of the City you live in “SEE SERVICE MAP” https://www.cowtx.org/DocumentCenter/View/303/Service-Map The City and Waste Connections will like to take this opportunity and go over few guidelines when it comes to your Bulky Waste and Brush/Heavy Trash services.

Below are some guidelines that will help provide better service for our customers.

Acceptable items for

Items such as: Couches, furniture, bicycles, and similar items that might be found in or around your homes. (5 cubic yard limit per service-per house/unit and a 50 lb. limit).

Acceptable Brush/Heavy Trash Waste:

Also serviced once per month the service will occur on Monday thru Wednesday and your scheduled week to expect service will be determined by which of the (5) sections of the City you live in “SEE SERVICE MAP ABOVE”. Tree, shrub, and brush trimmings not to exceed more than (50) pounds in weight. Brush trimmings do not need to be tied and bundled but must not exceed (4) feet in length. Five-yard limit per (house/unit) per service day. Five cubic yards is the equivalent to the bed of a pickup truck, and as high as the cab. This is what’s allowable and what is within the guidelines.

NOTE: All items must be in front of residence or side of residence within 5 feet from roadway/curb, 4 feet away from any stationary object and not under any overhanging objects like tree and/or Power lines. Items must be set on the service day prior to Monday 7am. Any item on vacant lots will not be serviced.

Not acceptable for disposal:

Concrete, dirt/ mulch, bricks, batteries, cross ties, rock, tire, auto parts. Household hazardous waste, including, but not limited to, pool chlorine and other chemicals, fertilizer, pesticides, paint, animal carcass, oil or other petroleum products and medical sharps or waste. Contractor/Construction waste, remodeling, including, but not limited to, lumber, plywood, drywall, carpeting and other flooring material, tile and roofing material.
