Message from the Mayor:
Spring is in full swing. Mother Nature has already made her presence known, and she’s probably not done yet. None the less, it is time to break out all the tools and equipment to get the yards in shape and the gardens going. Don’t forget the “Yard of the Month” award. Nominate your neighbor or other deserving citizen, or even yourself.
The Mayor’s Book Club, previously scheduled for last month, will now be on May 2nd, from 4:30 to 5:30, in the library. The book is titled Walk Two Moons. You’re welcome even if you have not read it. Come and join the fun and discussion... and snacks!
May always brings what I consider the most important responsibility we have as Americans. And that is exercising our right to vote. Besides our local election for council seats for Places 1, 2, 6, and 7, and both of our ISD’s school board seats, there are two important propositions (Prop. A, and Prop. B) on the ballot. There is still time to vote during early voting on May 1st thru the 3rd. Also, Election Day is Saturday, May 7th. The Tarrant County website lists the early voting locations, election day locations, and sample ballots. Don’t forget the State and County runoff elections on May 24th. Please, do your due diligence and VOTE.
After its hiatus, thanks to COVID, Wataugafest is back. May 19th thru the 22nd at Capp Smith Park. There is lots of fun to be had. So come on out and be a part of its return.
If you have not been to our Animal Shelter lately, they have lots of fur buddies looking for a new home. Whether you are looking for a dog, cat, rabbit or even a ferret, with an occasional chicken thrown in, they have them.
A reminder that May 2nd thru May 6th is National Teachers Week. I will recognize both BISD and KISD with Proclamations at the next council meeting. Also, May 26th will be the last official day for both KISD and BISD campuses. That day will be here before you know it. So be prepared those little ones will be out and about, especially around our great parks and splash pad.
Lastly, I will again mention our Gone But Not Forgotten program. It would be my pleasure to publicly recognize a veteran who passed the previous month for their service and sacrifice to our great country. Reach out to us at VETERANS@COWTX.ORG.
