Message from the Mayor

Hello Watauga resident. Summer is finally here. Kids are out of school and if you're looking to keep those youngsters busy you can find many options by visiting the city website. Watauga staff places a tremendous effort on offering quality summer programs. The City offered a new Public Safety Camp this year and hope that you will consider enrolling your children next year. The City also offers Camp Ton of Fun for ages 3-6 years and Camp Watauga for ages 7-12 years. I know the kids deserve a break after a long school year, but the library offers some excellent summer reading programs for different age groups to keep them sharp and make easing back into school a little easier when summer ends.

July also brings celebration. Two hundred forty three years ago we started out as a young nation with 13 colonies and the signing of the Declaration of Independence by the Second Continental Congress. The freedoms we enjoy today are derived from that very document. The right to "Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness" is probably one of the most famous quotes from it. We, as Americans enjoy so many freedoms that do not exist in other nations. While serving in the Navy, I was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to visit many countries and I can tell you, you are living in the greatest country in the world. Bar none! Be proud of our American heritage. So, as we celebrate our Nation's Birthday please remember what this holiday is all about. Above all, celebrate responsibly and be safe. And as always, please remember those who are unable to be with their families during this time. May God bless you, your family, Watauga and the United States of America!
