Message from the Mayor

Happy New Year Watauga.

I hope everyone had a Merry Christmas and the opportunity to spend time with friends and family. The City of Watauga wishes all citizens a safe and prosperous new year.

2019 was a great year for Watauga and as it ends, it is time to reflect on some major accomplishments this past year. The City held the first State of the City Address. Voters elected new members to the governing body. The City received grants that provided partial funding for the purchase of a new fire truck, the SAFER grant was awarded for the hire of 6 new fire fighter positions. The voters adopted 26 changes to the City Charter. A new City Attorney was hired. The Watauga Library received the 2018 Achievement of Excellence in Libraries Award (7th consecutive year). Most recently the Watauga Fleet Department was awarded the Bronze Fleet Award by the North Central Texas of Governments for emission reductions. The City had other accomplishments too numerous to recount, so be assured the City has great staff doing great things in Watauga.

2020 looks to be just as challenging and rewarding as 2019. The Watauga City government is committed to providing its citizens the best services possible. Planning and organization for the 2nd State of the City began just weeks after the 2019 Address, a general election and special elections will be held in May 2020 and the final Public Meeting on our Comprehensive Plan Update will be held on January 28, 2020. The future of our City is reliant on citizen involvement and commitment; thus, citizens are encouraged to get involved. If unable to attend the scheduled meetings, please watch through live stream or the re-broadcast available online. Contact your City Council members and/or myself to ask questions. Stay informed of all local, state and federal matters so informed decisions can be made. The Primary Elections are scheduled for March 3, 2020.

As always, our Library and Recreation Departments have a full agenda of outstanding programs available for adults and children alike. Please take advantage of these.

Premise Identification

As per Section 26-98 (c) of the Code of Ordinances - Buildings shall have approved address numbers placed in a position to be plainly legible and visible from the street or road fronting the property.

This makes it easy for your friends and deliveries to locate your property, and allows emergency services to easily identify where help is needed when called.  Please make every effort to have your address posted in plain sight to allow for less confusion when emergency services are requested and to prevent the possibility of a code violation.

Resolve to Try Yoga and Meditation at the Library

In honor of the New Year and new beginnings, the Watauga Public Library would like to invite you to try out yoga and/or meditation. These Saturday classes are free. The yoga class, from 1:45 pm to 2:45 pm, is on an easy level and is based around stretching. You will feel so relaxed after the class. Also, if you would like to extend that relaxed feeling, be sure to try out meditation from 3:00 pm to 4:00 pm. Yoga classes start on January 11th, and meditation classes start on January 4th. So if your New Year's goals revolve around de-stressing and relieving anxiety why not give these classes a try?
