Message from the Mayor Pro Tem

This year is passing quickly and Summer is already right around the corner! It is once again time for Watauga Fest! This is our big four-day annual festival at Capp Smith Park right here in our own community. We hope you and the family will come out to enjoy all the rides, games, live entertainment, food and fun Watauga Fest brings each year.

School is nearly out of session. Have you considered our Summer Camp? We offer two programs: Camp Ton of Fun (ages 3 - 6) and Camp Watauga (ages 7 - 12) that offers fun-filled days and field trips at the Hector F. Garcia Community Center. How about our Summer Reading Club at the Watauga Public Library?

Be sure to check out our Event Calendar on a regular basis on our website. We have something for everyone!

Public Libraries Support Non-Traditional Workers

People who once claimed the Internet would eliminate the need for physical libraries had it wrong.  The demand for public spaces has become more acute as digital technology enables some workers to fill their needs without a daily visit to the office.

Remote work is no longer a privilege for the few. A growing number of traditional employers are ready to propose a flexible work arrangement for their employees.

Public libraries are uniquely well positioned to aid these workers with systems and digital equipment, collaborative work spaces, and meeting rooms that offer privacy and a professional appearance for in-person gatherings with clients and potential clients.

Public libraries have found new roles and expanded their missions to serve people and support their current needs for information, education, and public spaces where people can study, work, and socialize with one another.  These new roles for public libraries have clearly added to the return on investment for tax payers.
