Message from the Mayor
Another long year is coming to an end. December is here. I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving holiday and was able to spend time with friends and family. That is what this time of the year is all about. It's a time to slow down and enjoy your holiday traditions with family and friends. I remember the excitement I experienced as a child. Not just opening presents on Christmas Day but the weeks leading up to it. It's getting to see our Grandparents, hot coco and popcorn, decorating the tree and driving around for hours looking at Christmas lights.
Oh yea, and the smell of a fresh cut tree every time you walked thru the door. Now I look forward to the same things but with a different perspective. My wife and I have been blessed and now we get to share those experiences with our grandchildren. This truly is, as the song says, "The Most Wonderful Time of The Year".
It is a time to reflect on another year gone. The victories, the defeats and the lessons learned. Hopefully it has made us all better as individuals and stronger as a community. It is also a chance to look ahead, as another new year looms on our horizon. With that, comes untold opportunities.
There are many events this month in celebration of the Christmas holiday. We will hold the Watauga Hometown Christmas Celebration and Tree Lighting Ceremony on December 7th from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Winners of the "Light Watauga Contest" will be announced on December 13th. There will be "Breakfast with Santa" on Saturday, December 14th at the Fire Station from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM. As always, our library and recreation department have a full schedule of events for all ages.
Next I'll make my final pitch of the year for more citizen involvement in our community. We have the first of 2 public meetings on our Comprehensive Plan Update on December 3rd at 6:00 PM and January 28th at 6 PM. We also have our final City Council Meeting of the year on December 9th at 6:30 PM. Come participate if you can, live stream from home if you can't or watch the video at a later date. But please, take an active role. Ask questions. Contact me via email (email@example.com) or my cell number 817-301-4877.
Lastly, please remember those that are not able to be with their families this holiday season.
